Whenever old films get adapted again or TV shows that have already ended pick up a new season after its finale, we use these terms to refer to them.

Often, some of these terms are used interchangeably nowadays, but the original meaning of each one has its nuances. For example, the film A Star is Born which features Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper is the third remake of the original 1937 romantic drama. It's the same story, just with a different cast.

Meanwhile, the Planet of the Apes films starting from 2011 are reboots. That's because they are a completely different story from the original film series from 1968. Coincidentally, the Planet of the Apes also had a remake film which came out in 2001, but it never took off after its initial success because the director Tim Burton and the movie studio lost interest in making sequels.

For a complete rundown of what all these terms mean and how you can different them, check this article from Screen Rant.
